It all began 25 years ago when three doctors realized the need to reach women who found themselves in a crisis pregnancy.

25 years later we are still meeting those needs by reaching out to those who are hurting, in need of help, and longing for someone to hear their cries.

That’s something worth Celebrating don’t you think? We do too! And to celebrate just such an occasion we have invited some of the women and their children, who have been ministered to by the countless volunteers and staff throughout the years, to our 25th annual Dinner Celebration. 8th Annual Golf Tournament

Last Thursday was our 8th annual fundraiser golf tournament

that was held at Tijera's Creek Golf Club in Rancho Santa Margarita.

It was the perfect day to be out of doors enjoying the sunshine.

If you look real close you can see all the golf balls

being dropped from the helicopter onto the green.

And of course, we had one lucky winner...to be revealed later.

We were served delicious hot fajitas...

one of our favorite foods!

There were great drawing prizes to win.

One was a really cool bike from Orange Cycle in the city of Orange.

It turned out to be a great event and a great day to celebrate life.

We're in your churches, at your places of work, and even among your closest friends. We are women who have had abortions. You see our smiles and hear our laughter, but what you don't see is an emptiness that can not be filled and a sadness that is difficult to comprehend.

The evening started out with drinks and appetizers in the courtyard of the Embassy Suites in Anaheim. After a time of mingling and catching up with old friends, we assembled in the Willow Room where the program opened with the Pledge of Allegiance led by our own President, Steve Behunin.

Lauren Kitchens followed with a touching message about the importance of becoming involved with our local CPC and how lives in our communities can be changed as a direct result..

We were all brought to tears when Anna shared her story and introduced her daughter.

13 Gift Baskets were donated by staff and volunteers that helped make the evening's events fun for everyone.

The Gift Basket drawing was held at the end of the evening and we closed with the announcement of the lucky winners.

We are so thankful for the two-hundred people who were in attendance this year and are overwhelmed by your generosity toward this ministry!

Every year at our Golf Tournament we are blessed with beautiful weather and this year was no exception. The morning started out with a crisp chill in the air but by lunch time the sun was out-luckily for those of us who had to sit in a cart all day and hand out cigars and other treats to the golfers!

On June 4, 2009, we will have our 7th annual Golf Tournament and Golf Ball Drop at the beautiful

India makes Stem Cell Break Through

It's a breakthrough that may have the country's medical and scientific community sitting up and taking notice. The Centre for Stem Cell Research at Christian Medical College has succeeded in reprogramming cells drawn from adult mice and making them function like stem cells found in the human embryo.

It has opened a new chapter in stem cell therapy in the country, as the technology can now be applied to generate similar stem cells from adult human cells too. These can be used to study genetic disorders relating to blood, muscle, brain and even diseases like diabetes. The use of embryos to draw stem cells has been the subject of a controversy, and the latest discovery may mean that embryos need not necessarily be used in the process.

Obama to Allow Forcing Doctors to Do Abortions, Says the Association of American Physicians and Surgeons (AAPS)

While surfing the net yesterday, I ran across an article I thought you might be interested in reading...

Today the Obama Administration published a proposed regulation to repeal the Provider Conscience Rule, which protects medical caregivers against being forced to do procedures contrary to their conscience.

This is a big step towards government tyranny over the medical profession.
Medical professionals should never be compelled to violate their consciences in treating patients. The integrity of the practice of medicine depends on physicians being able to decline to do what they feel is wrong. Jane Orient, M.D., observed, "It is outrageous that the Obama Administration would move so aggressively to interfere with the practice of medicine in this country. A doctor's right to conscience is essential to preserving the integrity of the profession, and we will continue to stand in defense of it.

Can music influence teenage sexual behavior?

TUESDAY, Feb. 24 (HealthDay News) -- There's still no firm proof that raunchy music makes kids have sex, but a new study provides another suggestion that there's at least some kind of link between "degrading" songs and teenage sexual activity.

The findings indicate that "people who are exposed to certain messages in music are more likely to copy or emulate what they hear," said Dr. Brian A. Primack, a pediatrician and lead author of the study released Tuesday.

In other words, teens who hear about degrading sexual practices in their favorite songs might decide to try them out themselves. However, it's also possible that the reverse is true: Kids who have sex just happen to like raunchy music.

Expanding on previous research that linked sexually charged songs to sex itself, the researchers surveyed 711 Pittsburgh-area ninth-grade students in 2006 and 2007 about their sexuality activity and the songs they liked to listen to.

The researchers then determined how many of the 279 most popular songs in 2005 were "degrading" because they referred to sex that's "based only on physical characteristics" and features a "power differential" instead of being mutually consensual.

For example, "Wait (The Whisper Song)" by the rap group known as Ying Yang Twins was deemed degrading, apparently because it included a reference to rough intercourse.

Degrading' Lyrics Linked to Teen Sex

The research study referred to in this article, found on Yahoo News, will be published in April 2009 in the American Journal of Preventative Medicine.

We thought this was an interesting article because when we listen to music we don't think we're pay attention to what's being sung, but research study has found some correlation between the music and sex. Though they are uncertain of the actual relationship, they have found that music and sex have some influence on each other.
This, we feel, affirms the idea found in the epistle Paul wrote to the Philippians. The things we watch, listen to and do have a large affect on our lives, especially our spiritual lives. Paul writes, "...whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable - if anything is excellent or praiseworthy- think about such things."Philippians 4:8 It is a good reminder to be careful of the things we watch, listen to or do because our bodies should be "living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God-which is your spiritual worship. [We should] not conform any longer to the patterns of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of [our minds]." Romans 12:1-2

We are pleased to hear that Dr. Michael Linzey, OB/GYN has been recognized for his work by America's Top Doctors as one of Orange County Medical Association's 2009 Physicians of Excellence and Southern California Super Doctors.

Dr. Linzey has been with LivingWell since the very beginning. He was one of the founding doctors almost 25 years ago. He is currently part of our board of references and performs Laminaria removals for women who have changed their minds regarding their abortion procedure.

LivingWell was Dr. Linzey's vision in providing an alternative choice for women. He has played a large part in shaping LivingWell and it's ministry. Thank you Dr. Linzey!

On December 10th, radical pro-abortion groups will present petitions
asking the UN General Assembly to make abortion a universally
recognized human right. The Catholic Family & Human Rights Institute
(C-FAM) has initiated a petition drive that calls for governments to
interpret the Universal Declaration of Human Rights as protecting the
unborn child from abortion. Along with a coalition of pro-life groups
from around the world, C-FAM will present these petitions at a press
conference at UN headquarters.

Please sign the petition by going directly to http://www.c- fam.org and
clicking on the icon "UN Petition for the Unborn Child," located on
the right hand side of the screen.

C-FAM hopes to present 100,000 names on December 10th, the 60th
Anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.

The Living Well Pregnancy Centers are pleased to have guest speaker Frank Pastore join us at our annual banquet on November 8, 2008.

Frank is currently the afternoon drive-time host on KKLA 99.5 FM in Southern California. Frank integrates religion and politics with the news of the day in an entertaining and
stimulating style at the “Intersection of Faith and Reason”. Frank pitched for the Cincinnati
Reds from 1979 through 1985 before ending his eight-year major-league career with the
Minnesota Twins in 1986. He graduated magna cum laude from National University in 1989
with a degree in business administration.
In 1994, Frank graduated summa cum laude from Talbot School of Theology at Biola University with a master's degree in philosophy of religion and ethics. He holds a second
masters, completing his graduate work in political philosophy and American government at Claremont Graduate School.

The Frank Pastore Show is the winner of the 2006 National Religious Broadcasters Talk Show of the Year.

Frank has a passion for our ministry and speaks often on the subject of saving the unborn and we are excited to have him with us for this special evening and hope that you will join us too!

Tea and Fellowship

On August 9th we held our annual Tea Party which was a great success!
Our guest speaker had everyone laughing and crying at the same time as she shared how at the age of 50 she discovered she was pregnant with... TWINS! Having two grown children and a husband who is a pastor she had some difficult choices ahead. Praise the Lord! She chose life for her two girls who are now in their late teens.

As always, Martha and her crew prepared a delicious meal that included scones, clotted cream, fresh lemon curd, tea sandwiches, tomato bisque soup and to finish it off there was an assortment of delicious desserts.
We are so thankful to all the women who hosted tables and invited friends. It was your faithful willingness to work along side us that made this event a success.

Baby Borrowers

This summer NBC will be premiering a reality television show called Baby Borrowers. The premise of the show is to allow teenage couples, who feel that they are ready to become parents, to borrow someone else' child for a couple of days. The idea is to provide an opportunity for the teens to see if their relationship can withstand the stress and pressure of being a teenage parent and finding out whether or not they are ready to become parents.

The idea of the show is different and unique, but is it enough to teach these kids a lesson? These teens are only responsible for the babies for a couple days. It's a far stretch from being responsible for these children for the rest of their lives. Some comments made about the show have been positive in the sense that they hope this will teach the teens to think before having sex. But how is this show going to be any different from watching teenagers babysit? I suppose we won't know until after the show premieres, hopefully there will be a good message sent out to adolescents that will teach them to consider consequences before doing anything they may regret.

Festival 2008!

LivingWell staff would like to thank all of those who attended our Festival on May 17th, 2008, especially on such a hot day. Your support has been an incalculable encouragement to us.

Scott, our community relations director, did an amazing job putting this event together. We had so many more activities and vendors than we did last year. Here are some pictures of the event. Enjoy!

Here are some of the booths we had set up. The first booth there is an arm wrestling tree! You would either arm wrestle or thumb wrestle the tree for candy. We also had other booths with balloon animals and a dress up station.

Here is one of the bounce houses we had for the kids.

We want to also thank all the volunteers from Sierra Madre Congregational Church, Soveriegn Grace, and ATLPC. This festival would not have been possible without you.

Abortion's link to Mental Health

it states that the Royal College of Psychiatrics have warned the public that women who have had an abortion or will have an abortion can be at risk for "mental health breakdowns". Now after hearing this some of the Ministers of Parliment are attempting to put a time limit on when a woman can obtain an abortion and require that these women be informed of the increased risks for problems with their mental health.

There have been many studies done on the correlation between mental health and abortion and there are some that claim there is no adverse effect from abortions or that the prevalence of mental health problems occur only in 10% of these women who have had an abortion.

However, a more recent longitudinal study published in the Journal of Child Psychology and Psychiatry have found different results. http://www.chmeds.ac.nz/research/chds/view1.pdf The poplulation they studied were women and girls between the ages of 15 to 25 years and this study lasted 25 years. They were able to find that those women who had an abortion had higher rates for mental health problems like depression, anxiety, substance abuse disorders, and suicidal behaviors.

We recently came across this article about a study done by government researchers at the CDC. They found that at least 1 in 4 teenage girls has an STD. To read more about their findings click on the link below.

This article gives a better picture of real situations many teenage girls find themselves in today. It's also a good wake up call for parents who think their children are not engaging in sexual activities.

Here are a couple questions that I have regarding the article.
1. What do you think of the comment made, in the article, about promoting abstinence-only programs as a 1.5 billion dollar failure?
2. Do schools really only promote abstinence as the only choice?

We had a wonderful time at this years Walk for Life. The Lord provided us with plenty of
sunshine and a cool breeze. We were a little concerned about having so many dogs in one area but, I am happy to report that there were no dog fights and everyone got along beautifully. Most likely because I left my dogs at home.
We had some great give aways and some that were not so great but everyone had a lot fun.

Movies about Unplanned Pregnancies

Juno and Bella were movies that came out a couple months ago. Both were about women who were facing unplanned pregnancies. Though both had different approaches to this subject they both came out with similar endings.

Juno is a comedy that is reminiscent of Napoleon Dynamite humor. The main character, Juno finds herself pregnant and not ready to start a family. She has pretty much made up her mind to have an abortion. An encounter with her classmate dissuades her from going through with the abortion. And so she goes on a journey to find a family for her baby.

Bella is about "an international soccer star who is on his way to sign a multi-million dollar contract when a series of events unfold that bring his career to an abrupt end. A beautiful waitress, struggling to make it in New York City, discovers something about herself that she's unprepared for. In one irreversible moment, their lives are turned upside down... until a simple gesture of kindness brings them both together, turning an ordinary day into an unforgettable experience." Written by Orange

It was interesting to see the different perspectives each movie showed. Bella was artistically shot and showed the anxiousness and serious side of an unplanned pregnancy, whereas, Juno found the humorous side of things.

From the Juno movie we see that despite the fear of her parents' reactions they all pulled together and supported her through the difficult time. And we never got the sense that the filmmaker was mocking the situation. As for the Bella movie, I thought they did a wonderful job showing the woman, Nina's contemplation of her decision. The movie also allowed us to experience with her the struggle and gravity of the situation.

These movies were well thought out and were able to demonstrate what love really means, that having an unplanned pregnancy isn't the end of the world and that there are other options in dealing with an unplanned pregnancy. Each also gave a good idea of how some women deal with their unplanned pregnancies and allows those on the outside a good insight on how to help and support those who face an unplanned pregnancy.

Why are abortion rates falling?

The other day a friend of mine sent me an article from Time magazine about a study done by Guttmacher Institute that abortion rates have fallen since 1974. Though this article showed both sides of the controversy, they did not give solid evidence to back up each stance.

Can having an abortion be emotionally dangerous?

Last week, I came across Planned Parenthood’s answer to this question. Simply stated, “no.”

But, would women who have had an abortion answer that question in the same way?

It might not be correct to say that every woman regrets her abortion. But these stories are evidence enough to me that an abortion isn’t just a few minutes of your life, where you walk away completely unscathed.
